It took her almost two years, but Mica Root biked to and swam in every single one of the city’s public pools. That’s no small feat, considering that there are 75 of them—more than any other city in the nation. Not per capita, mind you, but total. A former travel writer and current South Philly resident, Root documented her adventures on a blog, phillypublicpools.com, introducing readers to lifeguards and other pool employees, giving background about each location and showing parts of town folks might otherwise never see.
