How is the museum collection a site of violence? In conjunction with the exhibition Colored People Time: Quotidian Pasts, this screening delves into the processes of collecting in anthropological and archaeological museums and how these processes are inextricably bound to histories of colonialism in the 19th century. Examining both the processes by which colonists looted art and artifacts from African nations and how these objects were subsequently displayed, this screening addresses the colonial legacy embedded in art institutions today. This screening will be followed by a conversation between curator Maori Karmael Holmes and directors Zack Khalil and Jackson Polys.
