Seeds Gallery features mixed media drawings by Kelly Kozma, paintings by Paulo Machado, and photography by John Singletary. On view in June and July, this exhibition features three diverse artists who utilize their media to investigate visual texture, chance processes, the structure of organic forms, and the chemistry of photography.

Please join us for an Opening Event on Saturday, June 8, from 5-8pm. The exhibit will also be open June 22, July 13, and July 27 (5-8pm).

Kelly Kozma uses chance processes to construct images in paint, pencil, and hand sewing, creating brightly colored, rhythmically patterned imagery of abstracted worlds. With each meticulous hand stitch, a flat sheet of paper transforms into a textile-based piece. With each chance decision, the relationship between the artist’s hand and a surrender of control hangs in balance.

Paulo Machado’s large format paintings explore themes of the natural environment versus the built world through vibrant colors and abstract patterns. Repetition, the grid, and a dialogue between organic and geometric shapes immerse the viewer in Machado’s visual investigations of social, cultural, and environmental issues.

John Singletary’s work uses a large format to capture the intricate reactions that occur as chemical mixtures, which include standard photographic darkroom compounds, dry – presenting large gestural forms that contain a landscape of fine textures and repeating structures that suggest both the microscopic and the cosmic.
